How to Get Started

Driving Lesson

Teen Steps-How to Get Started

1. Get a TIP Card from the OMV (Temporary Instructional Permit).

2. Register for Class online at www.504driving.com or in person.

3. Pay Deposit ($75, non-refundable, non-transferable).

4. Attend Classroom Sessions (30 hours / 4 days).

5. Complete Behind-the-Wheel Training (8 hours/ 4 days).

6. Take the Road Skills Test (schedule

separately).

7. Return to OMV with your certificates to upgrade your permit/license.

Driving School

Adult Steps-How to Get Started

1. Get a TIP Card from the OMV (Temporary Instructional Permit).

2. Register for Class online at www.504driving.com or in person.

3. Pay Deposit ($75, non-refundable, non-transferable).

4. Attend the 6-Hour Classroom Course (2 days).

5. Complete Behind-the-Wheel Training (8 hours/

7. Return to OMV with your certificates to upgrade your license.

Road Skills Test -Steps

  • Obtain a TIP Card or Learner’s Permit

    • Must be issued by the Louisiana OMV before scheduling your test.

  • Schedule Your Road Skills Test

  • Pay the Road Skills Test Fee​

  • Arrive on Test Day with Required Documents

    • TIP Card or Learner’s Permit

    • Certificate of Completion (if under 18)

    • Parent/Guardian present (if under 18)

    • Proof of identification

  • Take the Road Skills Test​

  • Receive Your Completion Certificate​

  • Return to OMV​

How to Get a TIP Card?

  • Go to the Louisiana OMV.

  • Bring the following documents:

    • Birth Certificate or Passport

    • Social Security Card

    • Proof of Residency (parent/guardian’s name if under 18, or your own if over 18)

  • Pay the required OMV fee.

  • The OMV will issue your TIP Card.

Teen Driver Requirements (Under 18)

  • Must be at least 14 years, 9 months to start driver education.

  • Completion of 30 hours classroom + 8 hours behind-the-wheel.

  • Parent/guardian consent required to obtain learner’s permit.
